Gene P. LaFollette Gifted Scholarship
The Co-op for Gifted Children in Alameda is proud to announce the Gene P. LaFollette Gifted Scholarship. This full academic scholarship is worth $10,500, and will be awarded to an exceptionally or profoundly gifted child within the ages of 4-14 for full time attendance at the Co-op for Gifted Children for the 2011-2012 school year. The recipient may also apply for renewal of the scholarship for consecutive years.
Gene LaFollette has a private law practice in Alameda and has been a member of the state bar for 43 years. He attended the University of Kansas for his undergraduate degree and then attended Hastings Law School. He has been sitting as a pro tem judge in Alameda County for 28 years. Gene has five children and six grandchildren, and he and his wife Carolyn live in Alameda. Gene has been incredibly supportive of the gifted community. This scholarship is named for Mr. LaFollette’s ongoing generosity and commitment to the success of young children in Alameda, and in particular for his support of the Co-op for Gifted Children in educating the community about the unique needs of gifted children.

Scholarship Criteria:
1) The scholarship will be granted to a family who demonstrates financial need for support of their gifted child
2) The child will have tested (or be tested) as exceptionally or profoundly gifted by a qualified expert in giftedness
3) The family will positively contribute to the life and community of the Co-op
